Olly takes 1:12 victory for Associated and Lipo.

Olly Jefferies wrote himself a small page in RC history at the weekend when he became the first driver to win a UK BRCA modified national using an 12R5 and LiPo power.

Round two of this years 1:12 BRCA National took drivers to the permanent indoor facility at Newbury in Berkshire. As usual the format was a Pro Stock national and on Saturday and the quick Modified cars taking to the track on Sunday. On Saturday Olly set the pace early on and was fastest in the first two rounds of qualifying but dropped to fifth by the end of qualifying. On lap one of the A final Olly got hit off and dropped to last place making things very difficult for him however, he fought back to finish a slightly disappointing fourth. Sunday and Olly was using LiPo in the 12R5 for the first time making the most of the link cars ability to run with a LiPo pack. Once more Olly was quick off the mark setting fastest times in the early rounds of qualifying, after round one he was a lap clear, the chasing pack closed up by the end of qualifying but this time Olly held on to take FTD ahead of his old Hot Bodies team mate Andy Moore. The 12R5 showed some great pace, over the two days of the Newbury national. Olly took fastest time in five out of the eight rounds of qualifying. A nail biting eight minute final saw Olly control from the front and despite Andy Moore snapping at the rear of the R5 for the whole race. Olly was able to hold on keep his nerve and take a memorable win that proved that LiPo has well truly arrived in modified 1:12 racing. ?The car was easy to drive and I was able to run conservatively without pushing the limit, Andy got close a couple of times but I felt confident that I could hold the advantage to the end? Olly said after the final. So a dominating performance from Olly but, while he was blazing a trail up front, in modified his CML team mate Keith Robertson was having a troubled day and ended up well down the field after a meeting he will hope to put behind very quickly. Keith made the A final on Saturday so his weekend was not a total waste but he would hope that his modified score will be one he will drop at the end of the year. Watch out for the next episode of Olly?s 1:12 blog when he will talk more about Lipo in the 12R5 and post a set up sheet.
