Jon Howells Wins the Dudley RCC Winter Series Micro Championship

The last round of the Dudley RCC winter series took place on Sunday 7th February 2016 at the Coseley School.

A fantastic turn out of drivers attended the last round of the 2015 Dudley RCC Winter Series.  There was a great turn out for 1/16th Micro, 2wd, 4wd, Vintage and Touring cars, in total 78 drivers making up 12 heats of qualifying.

The club again put on a well laid out fast flowing track on full carpet with the usual table top, finger jumps and the wall ride which were removable for the touring cars, maybe we will see Trucks and Rally-X touring cars making a comeback alongside vintage off-road in the future and see an individual on and off-road winter series?

Again there was a strong turnout of support for the 1/16th Micro Class with 30 driver’s battling for the top 10. Again a few of the CML Nitro team also turned up to show continued support for the micros and winter series. After four rounds the top ten would be :-

1 Jon Howells
2 Ryan Lucas
3 Andy Mountford
4 Ian Littley
5 Jon Griffiths
6 Ryan Bamford
7 Jason Potter
8 Lee Hazelwood
9 Lee Cronshaw
10 Mark Westwood

Jon Howells would go on to dominate both legs with his Carisma GTB leaving the rest of the field to fight for positions two through to ten. Every class would be running two leg finals giving plenty of time for everyone to watch some racing and work on their car. The overall finishing positions would be :-

As this was the last round the championship was also decided, with Team CML taking 4 out of the top 10 places with the Carisma GTB finishing strong in 1,2,3 and 4!

The 1/10th 2wd class would see a few super star drivers turning up to race and this would be a hotly contested top 10. The super star legend Craig Drescher made an appearance and showed he still had some skills and putting his Team Associated B5M on pole with a couple of the CML team making into the top ten also. After 4 rounds of qualifying the top ten was :-

1 Craig Drescher
2 Ashley Owen
3 Ade Malkin
4 Mick Butler
5 Ian Littley
6 Russel Lee
7 Jason Green
8 Keith Robertson
9 Ryan Lucas
10 Neil Duncombe

Craig went on to win both legs of the final out right and show he is still able to run a clean race or two at the front with a few young guys chasing and a few older ones. There was a rumour the chocolate was a bigger incentive to win than the trophy!! After two legs of the A main the finishing positions were :-

Every round has had a fantastic turn out and had some good racing in all the classes, I think everyone will be looking forward to the 2016 Dudley winter series!
