BRCA 1/8th Circuit - Round 4 Review

CML Driver Chris Heath is running the RB Xenon R engine this season and turning a few heads. We can keep up to date with his progress thanks to some great race reporting from Chris himself.

Saturday was a total disaster as I had to work through the night on Friday into Saturday. I did not get to bed until 09.00am Saturday morning. So with the limited running time at Wombwell I could just not make the practice day. Sunday was truly a case of not much chance. With only racing at this track once before and that was in the rain, I truly though my chance of doing well was not going to happen. This was all soon put to rest, a troubled first run but after that my pit man (Brother Justin) put a demon set-up on the car which most people commented on looking the best on the track. The car and engine where working brilliantly, which managed to give me the opportunity of putting together a 17 lapper which I was one of only seven drivers to do this!! Round 1 This heat started well, but with starting 7th I soon found myself fighting pass the other cars but at the same time fighting to keep the car on the track, the set-up was not right at all. This came to an end with about one minute left to go, when the car and I car both gave up the fight and I crashed off. The engine cut and there was no point in starting it back up. So returned to the pits with all the weight on my brothers shoulders to find a set-up that works. Round 2 Well what can I say, Justin did an amazing job. He did not change that much on the car, mainly just the springs and altered the droop a bit. He said he had a gut feeling the biggest problem was the old tyres. So with the alterations done, new boots on the car and a different body shell. It was a totally different animal, very easy to drive, much quicker than the rest of the pack and quite stunning to watch as many commented. Won this round with easy and managed to get a 17 lapper even with cars to lap on virtually every lap. Round 3 Now with some confidence with the car and the track, this was the run to make improvements to my last run and get a better position than 7th. Sadly not to be, the traffic seem to be constantly around me and with a coming together with a back marker that popped me onto the grass for a little bit. There was no chance of moving up now, but 7th overall I stayed, which was no surprise as the rest of the drivers in my run were no where near my pace!! A Final Went into this final with the mind set of winning as I new that now I would not be dealing with traffic. The speed of me and the car could really turn this into a big result for me and the RB engine. This was not to be, only managed 2 laps as one of the rear top wishbones had broken in the warm up. But we still take away from this meeting a set-up that seems to work with the new upgrade. Plus an added boost that I am really getting the results of the top drivers, which no one behind me managed. Roll on Halifax!!
