Yokomo & Yardy take BRCA Rnd1 Honours

The Talywain club in South Wales played host to the first round of the BRCA 1/10th Off Road National Series, and the competitors were blessed with lovely sunny weather...

The track was different to last year in that it was mainly astroturf with a large grass banked section at one end. The main problem drivers encountered was the main straight which had some nasty bumps that would easily flip a car into a series barrel rolls and potential breakage. The rest of the track was high grip and quite choppy which made for a real challenge. The track at Talwain. In 2wd it was last years champion Ellis Stafford who took pole using Savox servos in his car with team mate Phil Sleigh in second with Associated man Lee Martin in 3rd. The finals were a disaster for pole man Ellis and he never got a run at all which left Phil, Lee and Paul Bradby to fight it out for victory. As it was it was Phil Sleigh who took the honours in front of the 2 Associated drivers to record his first National victory, so congratulations to Phil. The 4wd competition was expected to be tough and it was Yokomo man Tom Yardy who took pole with his Novak powered Yokomo BMAX-4. Tom is new to the CML/Yokomo team for '09 and was quietly confident that he could do well in his debut season with the team. Tom was pushed all the way for TQ by Danny Mcgee who did his best to chase down Tom's Rnd 4 TQ time which would have given him pole. As it was he fell just under a second short but in truth nobody looked like challenging these two drivers all day. Bradder's Team Associated B4. The first leg of the final fell to Danny after Tom amde a mistake at about half distance allowing him through, Tom followed home in second. The second leg saw Tom get away clean, and after an error from Danny which dropped him into the pack, Tom was able to drive clear and beat Danny's winning time from the first leg. Tom Cockerill followed in second and the winner would come from these three drivers in the final leg. In the final leg Tom beat any nerves he may have had about taking his first national victory and drove a controlled race to finsh second behind Ellis Stafford and take his first National victory making it a double of new winners for the weekend. Tom's winning Yokomo B-Max. It was a great result for Tom after years of nearly winning to finally put one on the board with his new team, and set him up nicely for title challenge in '09. Congratulations to Tom from everyone at CML.
