CML Indoor EMMA Race

CML Indoor EMMA Race

The 1st annual CML sponsored EMMA indoor meeting was held this weekend at the Newark Showground, and proved to be a great success.

The organising club had built a challenging and exciting track that ensured a lot of action and close racing. The qualifying sessions saw some incredibly close times and some awesome driving by some of the best drivers in Europe. The indoor track at Newark Showground. Round 1 saw Craig Drescher pilot his REEDY powered RC8 FT car to the fastest time with a faultless run, followed by Lee Martin and Elliott Boots. Round 2 and it was Darren Bloomfield who took the round with Craig second and Lee third. Round 3 and Lee Martin stepped up the heat with a round win with Craig again second and Darren third, this gave Craig 3 great scores that would be hard to beat. Round 4 and Elliott Boots produced an amazing run with his RB powered car to take the round and what would be the fastest time overall in the qualifying sessions. Darren took second with Neil Cragg taking third after a tough few rounds that had seen him not make an impression on the leader board. These results meant that we went into the fifth and final round with four drivers capable of taking the overall TQ, these were Lee Martin, Craig Drescher, Darren Bloomfield and Elliott Boots. As it transpired it was Lee Martin who stormed to the round win and with it the TQ for the meeting. Darren was in a great battle with Lee for most of the run until a small mistake put him on his lid. The Sunday finals were run in the side by side format with the TQ man qualifying straight into the main final without having to run a semi final. The first semi final was a battle between the Associated team mates Craig Drescher and Neil Cragg. These two fought a great battle for the 30 minutes and despite being caught up with back markers accidents on many occasions they remained in close proximity on the track for the duration. As the flag dropped it was Neil who had the advantage with his RB powered RC8 over Craig's Reedy Powered similar car. Action stations! The second semi final was a fight between Darren Bloomfield and Elliott Boots. For the first half of the race they were running very close until Elliott, who was unable to make 10 minute fuel stops, started to make a few errors and drop back. Darren went on to take the win in a slightly quicker time than Neil had managed in the earlier race and thus putting himself second on the grid for the main final. The main final started with all the front drivers all making it round in regulation order and the fight was on. Lee was leading from Darren and Neil and these three just started to edge away from the pack. Visibility wasn't the best once the races got underway. After about 7 minutes Neil Cragg became the first casualty of the race. After a heavy landing off the double jump his car rolled to a stop and when it was retrieved it was found that the pressure pipe had bounced out of the clip and into the spur gear. After around 10 minutes Darren managed to get by Lee and from there on he was able to pull away ever so slowly but consistently and stretch the lead out. Lee started to push very hard to try and make the difference but with the amount of traffic the top guys were encountering it was very difficult to build up a rhythm. With five minutes to go Lee had mad no further impression on Darren and settled for second. Craig Drescher had kept his nose out any serious trouble and drove a good race to take third. Darren drove a great race and deserved his win, barely putting a foot wrong on this very technical track in 45 minutes. Lee, Darren & Craig were all on top form.
