Proline International Dirt Challenge

Proline International Dirt Challenge

CML Team Manager Dave Duggan reports back from a very successful 2008 Pro-Line International Challenge.

The 3rd annual Proline International Dirt Challenge held at Slough was greeted with a wealth of international driving talent including Ryan Maifield, Richard Saxton, Neil Cragg, Graham Alsop, Jared Tebo and last years champion Jorn Neumann from Germany. Qualifying started with Ryan Maifield fastest out of the blocks with TQ in the 2 qualiying rounds held on Saturday. His Associated RC8 looking fast and secure. Graham Alsop and Elliott Boots also started very quickly. Remote World Model Car Club, Upton Court Park, Slough. Onto Saturdays qualifying and it was Neil Cragg who after an overnight decision to switch from M2 Crimefighters to the softer M3 compound powered to TQ in the first 2 rounds on Sunday morning both with near identical times. Into the final round with Neil and Ryan with 2 TQ?s a piece and these two drivers fought out a sensational battle against the clock and were trading lap times, never more than 0.5 seconds apart on the clock. In the final reckoning Ryan managed to sneak 0.3 of a second ahead on Neil to take the overall TQ. Neil was second with his RB/Byron powered Associated RC8 and Graham Alsop maintained his great early season form to be third with his RB/Byron Hobao Hyper 8.5 car. Neil enjoyed the extra power of his Byron Gen2 powered RC8. A very tense looking pit. The Truggy class had been a closely contested class with Graham Alsop, Linus Thern and Jorn Neumann all taking round wins. After 5 rounds it was Graham who put his RB/Byron Hyper ST PRO car on the pole. The Truggy final was won by Linus Thern with his RB/Byron powered Kyosho, with Jorn Neumann 2nd and Graham Alsop 3rd. Winners row, 1/8th Truggy class. The main buggy final was a fantastic race with about 6 divers being in the fight up until about the 10 minute mark. Neil Cragg, Linus Thern and Elliott Boots all dropped away from the leaders over ambitious fuel strategies and this left Ryan Maifield, Graham Alsop and Jared Tebo fighting for the win. Ryan also had a cut, but fortunately it was in the pits and only lost him a few seconds. This left Graham leading in front of Ryan and Jared. With about 4 minutes to go Graham made a couple of small errors which dropped him back to 3rd. The positions stayed this way to the flag leaving Ryan with his Team Associated RC8 to take the victory. Winners row, 1/8th Buggy class. CML would like to thank Proline for the Sponsorship, Remote World Model club for running a fantastic event, Team Associated for continued support of the event and also to Phil from NEO Buggy for covering the event.
