CML Winter Series - Rnd 5

Round 5 of the CML/Frankley Winter Series was run in fantastic weather on Sunday. As the track thawed throughout the day the times got faster and faster resulting in a thrilling race!

Qualifying was a close battle between Lee Martin (Associated RC8), Graham Alsop (HoBao Hyper 8.5) and Simon Willetts. After 2 rounds Lee was ahead of Simon with Graham in 3rd place, although Graham was confident that he could claw back the top spot after an unfortunate and lenghthy incident in the first round. Graham went out first and managed to sneak in front of Lee's previous time by 1 second despite a couple of small incidents. Lee made a couple of changes to improve his car on the now dry track and it paid off with fast and controlled drive that saw him go a few seconds in front of Graham's time with Simon falling to 3rd. Lee Martin with his RC8 The Final saw Lee have a terrible start that put him back in the pack with work to do. Graham meanwhile had streaked off to build an unbeatable lead after only about 3-4 minutes. David Crompton and Richard Taylor were having a good scrap over 2nd with Lee just behind making the most of the dry track and his new setup. Lee managed to pass Richard after a fierce battle and set after David just missing out on 2nd place after taking 3.5 seconds off him in the last 2 laps to be just short at the flag. Graham went on to win easily being virtually a full lap up by the end of the 20 minutes. If he continues this form into the national season he will be a tough man to beat.
