Lee Martin sweep up at Stotfold

The sixth and final round of the BRCA 1/10th Off-Road Series was held at Stotfold Model Car Club in Hertfordshire on their all astro-turf track. With two distinctly different types of astro and the famous seven mounds of Stotfold in use for all sorts of jumps, bumps and adverse camber corners it was a great way to finish the season.

The 2wd championship was still to be decided with the battle between Neil Cragg and the man who was crowned the 4wd champ at the previous meeting, Lee Martin.  Lee needed to take pole position and the win to take the title so the pressure was on.

Lee got off to a great start as he dominated qualifying with his Yokomo and was backed up well by team mate Tom Cockerill in second.  Local Schumacher driver Lloyd Storey put in some fine runs to go third with Neil only able to manage fourth and leaving himself with it all to do if he wanted to beat Lee.

The first leg of the final was a tense affair as Neil made a great start to run second, but Lee drove a classic defensive line and there was no was way past as Neil crossed the line in second place, right in Lee's slipstream.  After the excitement of the first race, the second unfortunately was rather anti-climactic.  A mistake on the opening lap from Neil dropped him to the back of the field giving him no chance to challenge as Lee cruised to the leg win ahead of Tom Cockerill.  Lee went out in the final leg and completed the clean sweep which gave Lee the overall win.  He was joined on the podium for the day by Tom Cockerill in second and the return of Richard Taylor in third.

With a maximum score for the day, Lee sealed the 2wd National title to double up with his 4wd title.Neil finished in second a single point behind whilst Tom Cockerill finished in third following his excellent Stotfold performance.

The 4wd event was held on a similar design track which was very open and flowing. But after the hot and sunny weather on Saturday, Sunday dawned wet and the forecast was for showers. With the forecast proving correct the track remained slippery all day.

Lee Martin again dominated qualifying, taking all four rounds despite the conditions with his usual nemesis Neil Cragg in second. The Yokomo team proved their pace this weekend with Simon Moss third on the grid and Tom Cockerill in fourth.

Lee checked out in all three legs of the finals to round off the perfect weekend with another maximum score.Simon kept Lee honest to claim second with Tom Cockerill joining his team mates on the podium in third.

Many thanks to RC Racer Magazine for the report.

So a cracking year for Team Yokomo and Team Associated as they sweep the top 5 positions in the 2wd championship and top 4 in 4wd.
