RCMotorsport report back from the Weston Worlds

RCMotorsport report back from the Weston Worlds

The Team Associated RC8B3.1 dominated the "Weston Worlds" The annual meeting that is held at Weston Park on a fresh built grass track.

This event is held annually at Weston Park and is known fondly as the “Weston Worlds”, it is a grass track built over 2 days by club members from East Shrewsbury Buggy Club. The track is built on an undulating field with a few wooden jumps and the rostrum is a lorry trailer with pallets for steps. This year the event was sponsored by CML Distribution who provided some great prizes for the winners. The event had 62 competitors who range in ability from National Drivers to Novices.

The 2-day event consists of 2 practice and 3 qualifying sessions all of which are 5 minutes in length on day one and then 2 qualifying sessions and finals on day two, with the best 3 from 5 qualifiers to count towards finals. Finals were 20 minutes duration for D to B Finals, the A Final was 25 minutes long with the Electric final being run for 15 minutes.

This year the weather was kind with a few light showers on Saturday morning and a brief shower on Sunday just before the finals.

Some good qualifying put me 3rd on the grid for the 25 minute A main, which was a good result. The final started but a couple of crashes put me back to 7th place, after some good clean racing I managed to pull it back from 7th and finished in 2nd place.

My RC8B3.1 was spot on as per normal

I had a great weekend at Weston Park, my practice and qualifying sessions were very good on Saturday. On Sunday I made a few changes to the car final 2 rounds of qualifying which placed me 10th in the B Final, I then went on to finish 9th.

My Team Associated RC8B3.1 was faultless all weekend, thanks to James and Gareth Harrold for their help with getting the car dialled.

Set up

The track was a tight, technical all grass track which we are not used to running on these days! Qualifying came and I kept it pretty consistent throughout, I was pushing hard to get a 10 lap qualifier in and after the final round of qualifying I was placed 15th overall which would see me line up 4th in the B, I was aiming for the bump to A.

The final turned into a hectic start which put me right to the back of the field, after a couple of laps I managed to settle down and started to pull through the pack, I ended up just missing out on the bump up spot coming home in 4th where I started.

Again my RC8B3.1 was superb all weekend, I only needed to make a couple of slight changes.

Setup
Diffs- 7K-10K-5K AE diff oil
Shocks- 35/30 AE oil
Ride height- 24/26

Bryn Pound

Bryn only competed in the final day of the event as he ran the timing on Saturday, as he didn’t complete all of his qualifying runs he was placed 8th in the D Final. The car was awesome and he finished 1st in the D Final bumping up to the C Final. Bryn started in 12th but was unlucky to get caught up in multiple car crash which dropped him right to the back of the pack. Some good driving would see Bryn make his way back up to 5th just 2 spots short of bumping up again into the B!

Set up

Shocks 40 front / 35 rear AE shock oil

Cate also retained her title by winning the Ladies race for the 2nd year using Jaff’s Team Associated RC8B3.1, so all in all a good weekend for the RCMotorsport team and the Team Associated RC8B3.1
