Ledbury AWS Report

Ledbury AWS Report

A damp and greasy Ledbury greeted the drivers for round 1 of the 2017/18 Astro Winter Series.

Equipped with soft Fastrax Twisters Carl O'Connor stole the initiative and duly bagged TQ in round 1 of the truggy class from Jon Howells with Ste Berrington also finishing in the top ten.

On to round 2 and Jon reversed the result by beating Carl to set up a winner takes all shoot out in round 3 for pole position

Round 3 saw the track really beginning to dry and the AE boys really stamped there authority on the meeting, Jon secured pole position and Carl duly lined up right behind him for what promised to be a great final and a great opportunity for some AE dominance. Ste lined up a creditable 12th in only his 3rd ever meeting running the mighty RC8T3.

Onto the final, Jon got off well to take the lead, Carl made a great start but unfortunately took a tumble whilst negotiating turn 2 and ended up dead last with 18 minutes to crawl his way back into contention. After 5 minutes Jon was gradually pulling away from the field while Carl was enjoying the challenge of battling with the other truggy racers on his way back to the front. Just before the pit stops, Carl managed to overtake his way back into 2nd place but at this point he was around half a lap behind Jon. This is where the 2 AE boys finished at the chequered flag, bagging a brilliant 1st and 2nd and both setting some blistering laps on there way to a dominant display, Ste managed a fantastic 7th in his AWS debut.

Over in the buggy class, Lloyd Pitt qualified straight into the A final and was looking good for a top result. Unfortunately, a technical issue prevented him from finishing. Matt Cunnington and Colin Davies also drove fantastically to achieve bump ups in there respective finals to show the pace of the AE platforms is right up there with the very best.

Thanks to the organisers of the AWS and Ledbury Model Car Club for another great meeting and also thanks to all the other competitors for making it a brilliant start to the Winter Racing Series
