Jon Howells takes victory in the Stadium Trucks at Dudley Winter Series Round 2

Sunday 12th November 2017 would again see a good turnout of drivers attending the latest round of the Dudley RCC Winter Series,

As per the previous rounds there was good support for multiple classes with 12 heats covering 1/16th Micros, Touring Cars, GT12, 1/10th Buggy’s, Stadium trucks and Vintage cars.

The track was a twisty but flowing full carpet track with removable jumps for the on road cars, a raised ripple section and the now standard Dudley wall of death!

After three rounds of qualifying Team CML’s Jon Howells had a great start with his newly built Team Associated T5M and was in the TQ spot, CML Team mate Jason Potter was in third also running a T5M. As it was now an open tire rule both Jon and Jason opted to run the new Pro-Line Prism and Pro-Line Wedge Truck tyres, which looked to be working well with a good wear rate.

Jon Howells was also running in the 2WD class with his Team Associated RC10B6 and managed to qualify a respectable third against seasoned 2WD drivers with CML Team mate Russ Lee qualifying in sixth place.

Round one of the 4wd class would begin with a very congested racetrack, but for this round Clive’s Reedy powered Team Associated B64 car was fast, planted and he could place the car wherever he wanted Round. The setup was perfect allowing him to take TQ.

Onto round two and it would be pretty much of the same for Clive except for some reason the track was opening up and other people’s crashes meant a much cleaner run meaning Round two TQ and overall TQ were secured.

We won’t talk about Round Three as it was a scrappy run! The car was looking fast but a couple of unfortunate errors would see Clive drop back and have to fight back up to second.

The finals for all classes would be 2 legs and be hotly contested as there would be chocolate for the top 3 in each class again!

Jon Howells dominated the Stadium Trucks talking the win his Team Associated T5M with Jason backing him up to take second place overall, no one was able to get close to Jon as he pulled away and just kept going! In 2WD Jon would finish a credible fourth with Russ finishing in eighth place. Jon proving he is just as good with electric cars as he is with his more usual Team Associated RC8B3 nitro car!

In the 4WD class Clive took the win with his Team Associated B64. Clive made a great start from pole but an error on lap three would see Clive drop back giving the leader some breathing space. Clive was able to catch the leader back up but could not quite get back into the lead and had to settle for second after a small mistake.

Leg two would again see Clive make a good clean start only to have a mistake after a jump in the mid field section, Clive closed up the gap and pressured the lead car into a mistake. This time he would make no mistakes and keep it clean all the way to the chequered flag to take the overall win.

In the 1/16th Micro’s Craig Parry's Carisma GTB was on top form and took a convincing win by dominating both legs of the final.
