Sean Berryman Reports From The Final Round Of The Torch Indoor 2017/18 Series

Sean Berryman takes the Torch 4WD Championship with his Reedy powered Team Associated B64

Torch held a fantastic indoor series which has been popular and I’m sure will go from strength to strength in the coming years. The track is located at Swanmore College and is built fresh for each meeting. The team at Torch have been outstanding, the carpet and track markings are taken to the site each meeting so a huge amount of effort goes into each round from the team and its members of Torch RC club. The track is tight and technical and is always sure to promote close racing.

Within the 4WD championship the numbers have been varied but the focus on getting the speed from my Team Associated B64 was always my goal. The track has always been tight and technical so finding a good balance between the car and the tyres has been key.

The last two rounds of the championship my car was transformed from various testing. Settling on 40WT front and 35WT Rear AE oil combined with orange front and rear anti-roll bars worked well track to track and only making minor changes round to round. After testing differential oil I found 15k front and 10k AE oil in the rear to be the right feel. Having tested different ride heights I found 13/14mm to be the answer. Springs also differed but AE purple fronts and Blue AE rears provided the balance I was looking for from the car, this combined with 19mm front stroke and 29mm rear.

After finding the right setup, Round 5 included TQ with 3/3 A final wins. Going into the final round and needing a strong finish I was able to TQ again and take the win after two A final wins.

Sean's B64 Setup

Due to these strong last rounds I was able to take the overall championship in 4WD which I’m looking forward to defending later this year.

In 2WD I was able to place my B6 into the top 10 overall which I’m pleased with considering this marks the end of my first year racing 1/10th scale – bring on the regionals and nationals!!

I would like to thank CML for the support provided to me along with all of the CML and AE team members for tremendous assistance and knowledge given. I would also like to thank my fellow CML driver Gareth Stanton for the help provided over the course of the series, Stephen Brown and team at Torch who have been epic and very welcoming, Tony Evdoka for his awesome commentating and all of the Torch club members for the positive and welcoming atmosphere.  Big thanks to Industry RC for the stickers and Puppy Paint!
