Frankley Winter Series - Round 3 25th January 2015

CML's RC8T Truggy Crew on a Role at Round 3 of the Frankley Winter Series

Sunday the 25th January 2015 saw the CML/AE RC8T Truggy crew arrive at Frankley Model Car Club for the third round of the Frankley Winter Series.

Frankley has gone through a major track revamp over the last few months and the winter series is becoming popular with 50 drivers turning up to show their support this time on a very much improved track. The track is still evolving and a credit to the clubs hard work.

Qualifying started on the crisp winter morning with Jon Howell amazingly deciding to run a new engine in whilst competing, ever carful with his engines and running rich hugely helped Peter Hedley take first round (thanks Jon). With the engine starting to purr Jon would go on to take rounds 2 and 3. Jon achieved 7 laps in both rounds to secure the TQ, with Peter Hedley qualifying second on the grid with his RC8T.

The truggies were checked over and refuelled for the A main later in the day...
On to the A main, a ten second count down started and the truggies were on their way, both Peter and Jon pushed hard to clear the ensuing pack. Jon Howells made an unusual error and snagged a track piping peg allowing Peter Hedley to take the lead momentarily and to get over the start/finish line first (thanks again Jon). Pushing hard and fast down the straight through the chicane to the banked corner and alas Peter left a gap on the inside and Jon was through and gone, gone, gone!
Jon seized the win a good lap clear of second place of team mate Peter Hedley, and a good days racing the truggies came to a close.

The truggies were shod with the trusty Fastrax Twister tyres – medium compound, Jon would later run the soft compound. The Twister is now becoming ‘the’ tyres for astro truggy running Pro-Line VTR ‘closed cell’ inserts & Pro-Line VTR wheels and they indeed perform well. Jon Howells also used the new Pro-Line Trifecta wing which “improved the stability” as he stated, a sure ‘must have’ for your pit bag.

All in all a great day out at the track with the Associated RC8T, fun for the diehard racer & the family.

Thanks to Pete Hedley for the report
