Team Associated win Reedy Cotswold National

Olly Jefferies and Zak Smith are really getting in to their stride with the Associated TC6.

The second round of the BRCA national touring car championship was renamed the Reedy Cotswold national in memory of the recent passing of Mike Reedy; fittingly it saw victory in both classes for Reedy powered cars. Olly Jefferies had a troubled qualifying session during Saturday but finished on a high with the fastest time in round five on Sunday morning. This was enough to give him second place on the grid for the A final behind pole man Andy Moore. In the first A final Olly took the an early lead and quickly established a comfortable lead. He went on to win leg one ahead of another TC6 in the hands of privateer Chris Kerswell. Alan Bickerstaff had a disappointing final. After some strong runs on Saturday, Alan netted an excellent seventh on the grid for the A final, however problems with water in the electrics saw Alan fail to even finish lap one of the final! It was a disappointing result after such a solid qualifying performance. It was wet but the team stayed dry. Elsewhere in the super touring class Steve Lander took victory for Associated/Novak in the B final proving that an old nitro TC3 waterproof box is as good as any of the current fancy waterproofing devices on the market. In 10.5 stock Chris Slater qualified fourth while Zak Smith was back in sixth. The 10.5 stock final was led early on by Mark Wallace but as drivers made mistakes Zak Smith worked his way through the pack and going into the last minute Zak was heading the field. He crossed the line to take victory with team mate Chris Slater second, a great 1- 2 result for the team. The rain had been unrelenting on Sunday so after the first leg of the finals the BRCA decide to make the results final. A great double for Associated with Olly taking maximum points in his challenge for this year?s BRCA title For Zak it was a chance to put a frustrating round one well behind him. Associated took the top two places in both classes making it the best weekend for the TC6 so far in the BRCA national series. Steve Lander (left) & Alan and Tom working together on the TC6. Elsewhere it was another win for Ross Walker who took victory in the 10.5 stock D final on his eleventh birthday, a great birthday present for the young academy driver. The team now have a five week break before heading off for round three at the fast open Halifax track. Olly won there last year and heads to the race leading the BRCA series and hopeful of another strong result. Chris Slater was on top form last year at Halifax and along with Zak will be looking to put in a strong performance in the 10.5 class.
