Drescher takes the Win

Drescher takes the Win

The first round of the SRS Summer Series took place over the weekend and saw a great victory for Associated/Reedy driver Craig Drescher.

The forecast of decent weather had 1/8th drivers from around the country desperate to get some weekend racing, and the host club Slough received over 200 entries for this event although they had to cap it at 160 due to the restricted daylight hours. Apart from a couple of notable exceptions most of the top Naional drivers were entered and were to provide some great racing. No rain! Round 1 of qualifying saw Elliot Boots take the round win with a fast and error free drive. Jon Hazelwood piloted his Hyper 9 into 2nd despite running what he felt were not the ideal tyres. Fellow Hyper 9 runner Matt Perry also placed his car in the top 6 in round. Round 2 and this time it was Graham Alsop who took the round win with his RB powered car, once again just pipping Jon Hazelwood into 2nd with his Hyper 9 who was in turn closely followed Craig Drescher who after making some changes to his car was much happier. Round 3 was a very close affair with Elliott Boots just getting to the head of the train at the 5 minute mark to take the round win and with it overall TQ. Craig Drescher took 2nd with another good run with Graham Alsop taking 3rd. It's all go in the RB tent. Craig's Associated RC8. In the B final Dave Bailey drove a faultless race to take the win with his Hyper 9 and join team mates Jon Hazelwood and Matt Perry in the main final. Also bumping up were Associated/Reedy drivers Richard Barton and Richard Cree. The main final turned into a straight fight between Craig and Elliott after Hazelwood suffered an unfortunate cut right at the start immediatley putting him back 1 lap. Alsop then also dropped out of the reckoning after a couple of errors and then he also had a cut. As it was Craig and Elliott both took turns in the lead but neither driver was making many errors altough they both got tangled up in a gaggle of back markers it didnt hugely affect the gap once it all cleared. Going into the last couple of minutes Craig had the advantage with Elliott a couple of seconds back, Elliott pushed very hard to catch but caught a couple of edges and couldn't make the difference enabling Craig to take the flag and a very good win. Lee Martin backed up team mate Craig to take 3rd with his Reedy powered RC8 FT and Richard Cree and Richard Barton made 4 of the top 6 Associated/Reedy with strong drives. With so many entrants it was almost dark by presentation time! Craig's RC8 FT was powered by the new Reedy 121VR engine, Byron Fuel and shod with Proline M3 Bow/fighter tyres.
