Biography

My name is David Nolan from Newry in N.Ireland. I began aeromodelling with fixed wing but quickly became addicted to model helicopters and I have never looked back. Over the last four years, in particular, I have been heavily involved in competitions entering the world renowned 3D Masters in 2005, 6, 7 and 8 and the Extreme Flight Championship (XFC) in the USA 2008. I have also entered the Scottish Nationals in 2007 and 2008 and Irish Nationals winning that event back to back in 2006 and 2007.

Through out the year I try to attend as many events as possible and in the last few years I have attended such events as the IRCHA Jamboree (USA), twice yearly Charmouth Funfly (UK), and Irish events such as the Ballymoney, Nutts Corner, Galway, Waterford, Letterkenny and Hangar 45 fun fly events. I have also judged at the 3DX Ireland competition in 2007, 2008 and 2009, also being the principle event organiser for the 2007 and 2009 events.

In July 2008 I was made European Team Manager for my helicopter sponsor Miniature Aircraft USA, based in Billings, Montana USA which has added another dimension to my modelling. It allows me to contribute much more to the development of the MA Flight Team and indeed the helicopters we fly.

As well as being sponsored by Miniature Aircraft USA I am also fortunate to be sponsored by other great companies such as HeliWholesaler, Motors & Rotors, CSM gyros, FlightTech Lithium Polymer Batteries, SAB Composite Blades, Morgan Coolpower Fuels, SwitchGlo and Hatori USA. By representing these great companies and with their help I get to see the world and fly along side some of the worlds great pilots. Without my sponsors all of this would not be possible.

My Future Plans

I have been associated with aeromodelling now for the last twenty years and in that time it has enabled me to travel the world making alot of new friends along the way. The one thing I still enjoy is encouraging the younger generation to discover the hobby that has brought me so much enjoyment and taught me many lessons along the way. I would like to continue this encouragement, which can only help the growth of our hobby, by attending as many events as possible in the future and promoting not only my sponsors but also the hobby I love. I would also like to continue to compete and help my sponsors develop their products for as long as I keep enjoying it and I hope this continues for many years to come.

Biography

I have been flying fix wing for about 29 years and racing cars for about the same time. I felt like i hit a wall within the hobby and needed a new challange. I chose to do helicopters but preferred smooth flying over 3D.  I started heli flying about 5 1/2 years ago, I went to the 2006 U.S. nats as a caller for Len Mount flying scale, which he won.  I looked at the other guys flying F3C and decided that was a bit of me.  So started practicing like hell for the 2007 U.S. class 1 Nats and it payed off.

I’m lucky enough to now be sponsored by CML distribution with Byron fuels,Savox servo’s.  They have been a great help over the last couple of years.

Other sponsors also include
TJD Models
Climbout Distribution
macgregor Industries
Scorpion Motors and ESC’s

My Future Plans
To promote the sport and encourage more people to get into the sport.  Get into the top 3 in the U.K. and goto the world champs. I would also like to compete in some the larger scale aerobatics (IMAC) comps if the time allows.

Pilot – Jamie Cole

Jamie Cole RC Profile :-

  • 3 D Masters Competitor- Placed Top 5
  • 2 times Scottish Nationals Freestyle Champion
  • Rotoworld contributer

Biography

For the last 25 years (since I was 6) I have been involved in RC models with my father, starting with cars, then planes and then in to helicopters.  I have been flying RC Helis since the early 90′s and have been displaying at shows ever since then from local events to the larger ones at the time such as Sandown.

Over the past 15 years I have been involved in the RC helicopter community writing regular reviews, more recently in Rotorworld.  Over the years I have entered many competitions including entering the first 4 3D masters events and placing in the top 5 on more then one occasion, I have also won the Scottish Nationals freestyle several times over the last 10 years.

I can normally be found in the south west of the country travelling to different clubs to offer help, advice and demo’s, although I do venture to Ireland and all over the mainland of the UK, especially in the summer.

Although RC Helis is my main core area of interest I am also a big boys toys guy and love all aspects of RC, my current collection includes drift cars, 1/5 scale motorcycles, 1/8th scale buggies, various planes and of course all sizes and styles of RC Heli’s.

Top Tip -Practice, Practice, Practice

My Future Plans
My plan for the next 12 months is to enjoy the hobby, practise and remain competitive.  This year will see be back to some competition flying with lots and lots of practise with my new 50 size machines such as the Fury 55, all powered of course by Savox Servos, I have tried and tested them over the last 12 months and they are the best yet, next to no slop after 12 months of abuse!  Awesome and above all reliable meaning less wrench time for me and more practise when I can squeeze it in.
