Greenacres – RCME 50th Anniversary Fly In

The RCME 50th Anniversary was held at the very friendly and professionally run Greenacres Club.  This club holds a number of events throughout the summer and this is our first attendance but it certainly will not be the last!

The club is located in Aldridge which is on the outskirts of Walsall in the West Midlands, the site was originally Aldridge airport but this has long since gone and has been converted by the local council to outdoor pursuits.

As usual Bob was first on site but we were only a few minutes behind him (although we found out later he was able to sample the excellent bacon rolls in our absence!)  After checking all of our transmitters in TX control we very quickly assembled the FMS War bird Fleet.

Greenacres operates an off the peg system but if you require a slot then it can easily be booked in advance, this was the easiest and most efficient system that I have come across and considering the number of pilots this system worked very well.

The Flighthub team rallied together for there first slot, it’s a hard choice to make but we decided to display the P51 Mustang, the 109 and finally the P47 (it’s my own personal favourite)  The new FMS landing gear has done away with the servo and it now features a small motor and worm gear drive, the result is a very realistic retract system that requires no setting up.  It’s proving itself to be reliable on all surfaces, and this weekend was no exception.

We flew in formation with the 109 out in front closely followed by the P47 and somehow the P51 always seems to hang around at the back, (I think Bob likes to see what were up to!)

John did an excellent job with the 109, considering it was his first flight with this one he settled into the grove very quickly, his landing was a also greaser or so he told us!!!! These aircraft are so lightly loaded that they don’t need flap for take off or landing.

The team are able to aggressively display these aircraft for over ten minutes as we are using the 4000mAh 4S Bionic Batteries, in fact, these batteries show no drop off in power until the BEC cuts in, it’s like running IC.

Top Tip:

Set your timer every time you fly, you can use the throttle as the starter on many of the new computerized radios, so there can be no excuse in being caught short!

The team put on several more displays with pilots and spectators showing some real interest in these, especially when we explained that everything was included except battery and you could choose to have a 2.4Ghz Radio as well………..for around £200.

We had a very good day and the weather was just right, the company was excellent, the flying was impressive, the only disappointment…………………………………

I never have enough batteries!

Many thanks to RCME and Greenacres for running this excellent event, see you next year.

I would have just sent this little comment to the article author privately, but cant seem to find a way to do so.

    Extract :

Its not the BEC that “cuts in” its the LVC!
    - this mistake appears all too often in various scribes, and doesnt help the cuase of trying to educate newbies about the mysteries of electric flight. Tim :-)
